Nissan Teases New Frontier – Diesel, LED lights

Nissan released a teaser image of its next-generation Nissan Frontier. It will likely have a turbodiesel engine, LED lights and a much stronger looking presence.

Nissan Teases New Frontier - Tacoma Soon?

This teaser photo of the next-generation Nissan Frontier is causing a lot of buzz.

This type of image normally comes out a few months before the vehicle is debuted. While our initial thoughts have always been around Detroit in 2015, it is looking like it may be at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

The focus on California makes a lot of sense. Like we said when the GMC Canyon was unveiled at the 2014 LA Auto Show, the California market is the largest mid-size truck market in the U.S. Toyota’s dominance in this region can’t be taken lightly by any new competitor.

On the other hand, Detroit is the BIG show and one of the largest truck shows in the country. Nissan’s head of trucks is Fred Diaz – formerly of Ram – and he loved making a big splash in Detroit. He may push the unveiling to build up as much excitement as he can possibly create.

If this image is the new Frontier, we can expect numerous things. First, it looks like it may have LED lighting, a new “beefer” look to the front and it will be offered in a 2.8L Cummins turbodiesel like the concept at the Chicago Auto Show.

We can also expect it to keep the 6-speed automatic and, most likely, 5-speed manual that it offers in its current lineup. Yes, Nissan offers a manual AND will offer a turbodiesel.

And yes, with GM offering a turbodiesel, Toyota will be the only mid-size truck maker without one.

Ultimately, when it is unveiled, Toyota should expect quite a bit of competition. For the last few months, Nissan has been growing their monthly sales. With its new offering, those numbers should continue to climb.
