Toyota Tacoma April 2014 Sales – Nearly 14,000 Sold

The Toyota Tacoma posted its best month of the year with nearly 14,000 units sold. After giving up market share to Nissan for the last few months, the Tacoma quickly took it back.

Toyota Tacoma April 2014 Sales - Nearly 14,000 Sold

Toyota is selling Tacoma pickups at a fast clip and this is leading to high sales.

For the month of April, 2014, the Toyota sold 13,871 Tacoma pickups (up 6.9% versus last year). This is the first time this year the Tacoma has posted an increase.

Chasing the Tacoma (per usual) is the Nissan Frontier. Once again, the Frontier posted an increase (10.5%), yet the volume is still less than half of the Tacoma (5,697 vs 13,871).

GM didn’t release specific data on the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. However, if you look at past sales reports, both trucks account for less than a few thousand trucks sold. In fact, with the assembly cut off, most dealers are just selling left over stock.

One other interesting thing to note is Pickuptrucks.com has complied some telling sales data. Looking at new car registration data, they developed a top 10 list of the fastest-selling pickups. Here is the list:

  1. 2014 Toyota Tacoma crew cab, 16 days
  2. 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD crew cab, 17 days
  3. 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali crew cab, 17 days
  4. 2014 Toyota Tacoma extended cab, 18 days
  5. 2014 Nissan Frontier crew cab, 21 days
  6. 2014 Toyota Tacoma regular cab, 25 days
  7. 2014 Toyota Tundra crew cab, 27 days
  8. 2014 Toyota Tundra extended cab, 41 days
  9. 2014 Ford F-150 regular cab, 42 days
  10. 2014 Ford F-150 extended cab, 47 days

Shocking to us was the Chevy Silverado 2500 HD crew cab. It is the only HD on the list and is moving faster than a lot cheaper models. While that seems a bit fishy (low inventory), the Tacoma dominates the rest of the list.

As the mid-size truck market continues to change, these sales reports will be interesting to look back on.
