Toyota Tacoma 2013 Year End Sales Figures - Strong Year

The Toyota Tacoma ended the 2013 sales year with strong growth figures. No surprise there.

Toyota says that for 2013 the Tacoma sold a total of 159,485 units, up 12.8 percent over 2012 (141,365 units sold). This increase is pretty impressive for the mid-size truck and the smaller truck market as a whole. While the full-size trucks have been garnering a lot of the media’s attention, quietly it seems the mid-size trucks have continued to sell well.

This percentage increase is pretty much in line with the other main mid-size competitor, Nissan. They say their Frontier sold 62,837 units for the year which is an increase of 13.4 percent (55,434 units in 2012).

For December, the Tacoma was actually down 5.4 percent for the month (12,761 units versus 14,030 in 2012).

The future of the mid-size truck market is incredibly interesting and could get even more competitive with the launch of the Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon – the Canyon should be revealed in Detroit in just a few weeks.

What do you think of these numbers? Anything surprise you?
