This photo looks exactly like what happened to us ! Our left rear leaf spring broke and was rattling around making a hell of a noise so i crawled under to investigate. To my surprise my leaf spring was broken and to top it all off my frame was Totally rusted out where the leaf spring hooks on to the frame ! The metal was thinner than a tin can I could break it off with my fingers ! By proof of this photo we aren’t the only ones. Is there any one out there that has had any luck with toyota fixing this problem ? ? ? Signed Toyota Frustrated ! ? ! ? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I have a 2009 Tacoma, 4 door TRD Sport(4×4). In the first year I had squeaking in the rear springs and they put in some type of bushing. I had to go back the following year for the same problem. Just a couple of months ago I heard a noise which seemed to be in the front wheel area. When I brought it to the dealer it was a broken leaf spring on the back driver’s side. I am a light user and have only 67000km on the truck. It has an extended warranty but this wasn’t covered. I was thoroughly disgusted. Since then I have spoken to a number of Tacoma owners who have faced the same problem, one guy who replaced three springs and two are cracked again. This is a dangerous situation when driving and should be a recall issue. I was talking to Toyota Canada and received no satisfaction. I contacted Transport Canada under defects and recalls and asked for an investigation. If you are faced with a similar problem we should all do the same. Hopefully it will be resolved.

Ed – It’s a good idea to contact Transport Canada (or NHTSA in the USA) – it would be great to get Toyota’s attention on this issue.

Yes, I think I’ll contact the US as well. Thanks
