Toyota Tacoma Grill Wind Whistle Noise – TSB

Toyota has recently released a Technical Service Bulletin (T-SB) for the Tacoma addressing a grill wind whistle noise issue.

A T-SB has been issued to fix a grill wind whistle noise issue that is affecting some 2012 models.
The TSB only applies to truck that were produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective Vins listed below. If yours doesn’t match up then it probably isn’t affected.

Keep in mind like other T-SBs the repair is only covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty, 36 months or 36,000 miles whichever occurs first.
The repair is described below:

- Verify the condition. The noise comes from a gap between the rubber seal that is on the grill and the grill itself.
- Duplicate the noise, then mask off the rubber seal between the grill and hood. If the noise is still heard, this T-SB doesn’t apply.
- Remove the grill.
- Replace with New grill, then test drive to confirm.
As with all technical service bulletins, it is best to visit your local Toyota dealership if you have any concerns about the T-SB.

This is great that Toyota addressed the issue, thou it can be considered as a minor issue still Toyota addressed it promptly. Good job to Toyota thou the sound doesn’t really affect performance it can still be a bit annoying to hear that sound coming from the hood.
I have had the grille and the windshield TSB done, however, still have the noise around 45 mph, and after taping it off again, the noise is still there, Toyota says that is all they can do. What should I do? they have tried three grills, still the whistle is there.
Jon,
Hmm… Are they sure it is coming from the grill and not from someplace else like the mirrors or something. My thinking is that if you have taped it off and replaced the grill three times, it seems to rule that piece out of the whistling. Just a thought.

My 2013 4dr Tacoma whistles. I’ve had it a week and at 40 mph and above, it has a loud whistling sound that’s not only irritating, it drowns out my phone conversations. The truck is otherwise fabulous. Rugged, hauls lots of weight, functions great. I still have the 2002 Tacoma I’ve owned for 11.5 years. Great vehicles. But this noise is driving me nuts.
Josh,
Have you taken it in? Is it the grill whistling?
